Eventually the Akkerman was dropped from the catalog after only two years of (Very limited) production. So why aren't there photographs of Akkerman playing his Framus aside from the one from the catalog?įirst of all, there were problems with producing the Akkerman, the first examples that Akkerman got from Framus had intonation issues and he also wasn't happy with how the Lawrence pickups sounded.īut the second reason was that in 1975 Framus was nearing bankrupcy because of Cheap Japanese made guitars flooding the market and very little effort was made to improve the Akkerman model to Akkerman's wishes, let alone marketing the guitar. It should've made Akkerman's dream guitar. ![]() ![]() And so the resulting Akkerman model had a maple semi hollow body with a big Gretsch-style F-hole with the dimensions of his Les Paul (A Personal has a wider body than a normal LP) but much thicker in depth, with the simple wrap around tail and twin humbucker (Bill Lawrence pickups, made to Akkerman's specs) set up of his Gibson. ![]() So when Akkerman was approached by Framus on a signature model he decided that a combination of what he liked the most of both his Gretsch and his Gibson was the way to go.
